Draft. This text is under review by our lawyer and may change before Via’s first contract. What it says about where the data is and who sees it is true today.
Who is responsible
Via is operated by Digital Life, Switzerland [the legal entity’s exact name and address]. For the data of a counseling firm’s students, guardians and staff, the firm is the controller and Via the processor under a data processing agreement; for this site’s visitors and for the firms we talk to, Via is the controller. Questions go to hello@via.college.
What Via holds for a firm
What the firm and its families put in: the students’ names, contact details, grades, test results, college lists, applications, notes, tasks, files, the time its counselors logged, and the guardians’ names and addresses. Via adds what it needs to run: who logged in when, what changed when, and the emails it sent.
Where, and for how long
In Microsoft Azure, in a data center in the European Union, with backups in the same region. A firm’s data stays as long as the firm is a customer. The backups are Azure’s standard backups, in the same region, read for nothing but restoring the service.
Who sees it
The firm’s staff, by their roles; a student and their guardians, what the firm shares with them; Via’s operators, only on the firm’s request and logged. The sub-processors are listed on the Trust page. Nobody else, and nothing is sold, shared for advertising or used to train anything.
This site
The site keeps no cookies. Visits are counted by Plausible without identifying a visitor. An email you send us is kept as long as we talk, and deleted when you ask.
Your rights
To exercise the rights the law gives you over your data, write to hello@via.college. A student or a guardian asks the firm first, which holds the record; the firm asks us, and we do it.
Changes
This page carries the date of its last change. A change that matters is announced to every firm by email before it applies.
